
We redesigned a plastic surgery clinic's digital presence with a before/after gallery, virtual consultation system, and HIPAA-compliant patient portal — driving a 156% increase in consultation bookings.
Artisan Aesthetic Surgery was a board-certified plastic surgeon's practice generating $3.2M annually through referrals and word of mouth. The surgeon recognized that 78% of cosmetic surgery patients research online before choosing a provider, but his website — a 5-year-old WordPress template with stock imagery — wasn't converting that research into consultations.
The existing site had two critical problems. First, no before/after gallery despite having 1,200+ documented cases. Patient consent forms existed, but the previous web developer had never built the gallery functionality. Prospective patients reported in surveys that before/after photos were the single most important factor in choosing a surgeon. Second, no way to offer virtual consultations — a feature that became standard post-pandemic and was now expected by out-of-town patients considering travel for procedures.
The surgeon also wanted a patient portal where pre-op and post-op patients could access their treatment plans, post-operative care instructions, appointment schedules, and securely share recovery photos with the clinical team — all without relying on email or text messaging.

We built the website around the before/after gallery as its centerpiece. The gallery features a custom slider component that lets visitors compare results for each procedure type (rhinoplasty, facelift, breast augmentation, body contouring, etc.), filtered by age, gender, and procedure. All images are hosted with patient consent verification and watermarked for protection.
The virtual consultation system integrates with Zoom through their API, allowing patients to book a video consultation directly from the website. Before the call, patients complete a digital intake form and upload reference photos through the HIPAA-compliant portal. The surgeon reviews the submissions beforehand, making the consultation more productive.
The patient portal provides a secure dashboard for each patient's journey: pre-op checklist with countdown reminders, post-op care instructions with videos, recovery photo upload for remote monitoring, and direct messaging with the clinical team. All data is encrypted at rest, transmitted over TLS, and stored on HIPAA-compliant infrastructure with audit logging.
Mapped HIPAA requirements, designed data architecture, reviewed consent forms for before/after photos, and created the SEO strategy for procedure-specific keywords.
Designed the visual system emphasizing trust and sophistication, photographed the practice, created procedure page templates, and built the before/after gallery UX.
Built the Next.js site with Payload CMS, the patient portal with encrypted storage, Zoom integration for virtual consultations, and Stripe for consultation deposits.
Uploaded 400 before/after cases, wrote 14 procedure pages with SEO targeting, configured appointment booking, and launched with a Google Ads campaign.
Within 4 months, the website became the practice's primary source of new patients — surpassing physician referrals for the first time.
